Crime Shows...and a job!

So i have been watching lots of crime shows like Criminal Minds, Cold Case, Forensic Files, and Law and Order. I find them quite awesome. I love it, but I don't get to watch them that much.......only on weekends. My favorite is Criminal Minds, but that has to be the one i rarely get to watch :( <- super sad frowny face.
WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!???????
I love the shows soooooo much that a possible job choice for me is a forensic scientist :O. That way, i don't need to know what happened, don't need to know about to blood and gore. I can just help and not know! I think....
blood stuff is gross so i cant be the detective person.
GO GO FORENSIC SCIENCE! SUPER COOL!

A Great Math Class...

once upon a time there was a crazy math teacher. A very strange student made his laptop talk. OMG thinks the teacher.
"DUDE! HOW DID YOU DO THAT?" exclaims the teacher
And of coarse, the very strange student showed him how...
The teacher was amazed! He couldn't wait to try it out.
He rushed to his computer (which was only 2 steps away) and began to type.
CLICK CLACK CLICK CLACK TIP TIP TIP
"Charlotte is not getting an Als Pals*" says the computer in a monotone voice.
"Well why not?" asks the class.
That sent the teacher into another typing frenzy that lasted a second.
"She begs for one. Annoying" says the computer
The class laughs
Click clack click clack tiptiptip....a minute later...
"Please clean up your area and straighten your rows now....now..now.nownow**" says the computer
Again, the class erupts. Laughter fills the air.
click tap clack click
"dAnt*** laugh" the computer says....

ALL TRUE!!!!!

* Als Pals are little green slips that you can get for being good. At the end of the week, they take all the als pals and draw 3 of them. The people that get drawn win some wonderful mystery item...

** My math teacher was doing that earlier in class. You would have to be there to think it was super duper funny. "Pit-boss rad cool" says math teacher

*** computer pronunced "Don't" and "Dan't"

The Paradox of False Positive- excerpt from "Little Brother" by Cory Doctorow

If you ever decide to do something as stupid as build an automatic terrorism detector, here’s a math lesson you need to learn first. It’s called, “the paradox of the false positive,” and it’s a doozy.

Say you have a new disease, called Super-AIDS. Only one in a million people gets Super-AIDS. You develop a test for Super-AIDS that’s 99 percent accurate. I mean, 99 percent of the time, it gives the correct result - true if the subject is infected, and false if the subject is healthy. You give the test to a million people.

One in a million people has Super-AIDS. One in a hundred people that you test will generate a “false positive” - the test will say he has Super-AIDS even though he doesn’t. That’s what “99 percent accurate” means: one percent wrong.

What’s one percent of one million? 1,000,000/100 = 10,000.

One in a million people has Super-AIDS. If you test a million random people, you’ll probably only find one case of real Super-AIDS. But your test won’t identify one person as having Super-AIDS. It will identify ten thousand people as having it.

Your 99 percent accurate test will perform with 99.99 percent inaccuracy.

That’s the paradox of the false positive. When you try to find something really rare, your test’s accuracy has to match the rarity of the thing you’re looking for. If you’re trying to point at a single pixel on your screen, a sharp pencil is a good pointer: the pencil tip is a lot smaller (more accurate) than the pixels. But a pencil tip is no good at pointing at a single atom in your screen. For that, you need a pointer - a test - that’s one atom wide or less at the tip.

This is the paradox of the false positive, and here’s how it applies to terrorism:

Terrorists are really rare. In a city of twenty million like New York, there might be one or two terrorists. Maybe ten of them at the outside. 10/20,000,000 = 0.00005 percent. One twenty-thousandth of a percent.

That’s pretty rare all right. Now, say you’ve got some software that can sift through all the bank records, or toll pass records, or public transit records, or phone call records in the city and catch terrorists 99 percent of the time.

In a pool of twenty million people, a 99 percent accurate test will identify two hundred thousand people as being terrorists. But only ten of them are terrorists. To catch ten bad guys, you have to haul in and investigate two hundred thousand innocent people.

Guess what? Terrorism tests aren’t anywhere close to 99 percent accurate. More like 60 percent accurate. Even 40 percent accurate, sometimes.

BOOKS!

I recently started a book called Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. This book is amazing and well written and i think it is a great read...so people should read it. The book is not about little brothers, but about 4 kids at the wrong place at the wrong time. Because of that they accused of being terrorist or helping terrorist blow up a bridge in San Francisco. ITS PRETTY TIGHT :D

Cross Country and Old Tv

Cross Country- You know what? Cross Country is really killing me. Ive been on the team for a week now so I'm kinda used to it, but today we did hill runs.... :( It was a hard day so we had to really push ourselves to run up that hill 5 times! The thing is i think hard days are easier than easy days. IDK why but the just are.

Old Shows That Rock- You know that show Chalk Zone with that kid that has magical chalk? Well i loved that show and they don't play it anymore... I really liked Danny Phantom too. They had really go shows back when i was like 7 and 8. Now they make they weirdest shows they can think of. But they also make really good shows too, they should just bring back some old ones!
